Alex Head
Head Wines Barossa Valley
A Science graduate from Sydney University, Alex Head started his career at The Ultimo Wine Centre. Then as the Sydney Auction Manager at Langtons Wine Auctions.
Vintage work coincided with wineries he held in the highest regard; Tyrrells, Torbreck, Laughing Jack and Cirillo Estate. Visits to Clape in Cornas, Dugat-Py in Gevrey Chambertin, Jamet in Cote Rotie and Font de Michelle in Chateauneuf-du-Pape continued wine-making inspiration.
2006 saw Alex’s first winemaking release of a co-fermented Shiraz Viognier from a single vineyard at Stone Well in the Barossa Valley. Now in 2011 Alex rents a small space at Tscharke Wines and makes up to 6 different cuvees from different sub-regions across the Barossa Valley.
The wine style is restrained, elegant, fruit-driven with an aim for long aging ability.
